Many athletes cannot reach their potential on and off the field because they face a mental health setback. Athletes experiencing mental health struggles often feel like they cannot cope with what they are going through. They may not perform their best day in and day out for this reason. Changing the culture by bringing awareness to the issue through discussion can benefit athletes, teams, and coaches. There are unique barriers that often limit our ability to seek help when we need it. Creating a culture where athletes feel more comfortable discussing mental health is crucial so athletes can feel better and perform better. Let’s work to end the stigma associated with mental health one conversation at a time.
